Conflicts

This video talks about conflicts, and they can be solved. It also talks about what creates conflicts in the first place, and how rules and checks cannot be a substitute for good conduct. We see many examples of this in the corporate world today: despite all the rules, there are innumerable cases of bloated fake valuations by analysts, banks involved in money laundering, accounting firms being in cahoots with companies undertaking frauds, false claims about pollution levels from the largest auto companies, bribery and so on.

Topics in this video

  • The Western model assumes that the leader/CEO is bent, and that a board is needed to keep him/her in check. It still fails.
  • The Western model assumes that in the absence of rules, there will be chaos. The Indian model asks us to focus on the people, not the rules. People with the right thinking and right conduct will automatically make healthy decisions.
  • Some examples of how following rules can be terribly bad are dicussed.
  • When there is a war, the Western model thiks there is a “good side” and a “bad side”, and that the good side wins. The Indian model shows that there are absolutely no winners in a war, ever.
  • In the context of conflict too, victory over oneself and one’s unwholesome tendencies (jaya) is as important as victory over the other (vijaya).
